Grants
Grants are gift aid based on need and are available to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Accepted students are automatically considered for grant programs if their FAFSA results are released to Michigan Tech. Students must apply for grant renewal each year.
Federal Pell Grant
Criteria : the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) determines the value of the award; undergraduates only. For 2008-2009, a Pell eligible EFC is $0 - $4,041.

Federal Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)
Criteria : financial need; undergraduates receiving Pell Grants; U.S. citizens; enrolled full time; first or second academic year* of study
Value : first academic year up to $750; second academic year up to $1,300
Other : awards are estimated based on FAFSA self-identification; final transcripts and AP/IB test scores required to determine eligibility; confirmed during July or August

National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (SMART)
Criteria : financial need; undergraduates receiving Pell Grants; U.S. citizens; enrolled full time; third or fourth academic year*; bachlor's degree program with eligible major*; at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA
Value : up to $4,000 for each of the third and fourth academic years

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
Criteria : exceptional financial need; priority is given to Federal Pell Grant recipients; undergraduates only
Value : variable; depending on the amount of funds available
Michigan Educational Opportunity Grant
Criteria : financial need; Michigan residents; enrolled at least half time
Value : variable up to $1,000
Michigan Adult Part-Time Grant
Criteria : financial need; Michigan Resident; enrolled on a part-time basis (3-11 credit hours); must have been graduated from high school at least two years prior to applying
Value : variable up to $600
University Student Award
Criteria : financial need and academic potential or performance; enrolled full time
Value : variable
Other : renewal requires a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher
